John Chester, age 87 of Dundas, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Friday, December 4th at All Saints Episcopal Church in Northfield with burial at the Groveland Cemetery in Dundas. Visitation will be 4-7:00 pm Thursday at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield and at the Church on Friday 1 hour prior to Services.

John William Chester was born October 27, 1928 at the Northfield Hospital, son of Edward O. and Ethel (Orr) Chester. He attended Dundas School and graduated from Northfield High School in 1946. He farmed his entire life except for the 2 years spent in the U.S. Army.

After his discharge his army buddy, Ray Wagener and Ray’s wife to be, Donna Juvland introduced him to June Margaret Fredrickson on New Year’s Eve 1956. They were married at Christiania Lutheran Church on October 1, 1960. They lived in Dundas until building their home on the family farm in 1964. John was Senior Warden of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church for 35 years. He served as treasurer of invested securities for the Groveland Cemetery Association for 40 years, and was a 60 year member of Masonic Lodge #48 AF and AM in Northfield. He enjoyed singing and was a member of the Northfield Male Chorus for several years.

John is survived by his wife of 55 years, June; sons Bradley (Laura) of Rosemount, Bryce and special friend Judeen Gorr of Dundas; grandchildren Hayden and Zachary Chester; brother-in-law Fred (Sherry) Fredrickson Jr. of Fort Meyers, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie and husbands Milton Wilson and Romaine Foss and Dorothy and husband Richard Herkenratt; and brother-in-law Vernon Fredrickson.

Memorials preferred to All Saints Episcopal Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
