Russell “Gus” Dean Johnson was born April 1, 1956 in Minneapolis and was raised in Northfield. At the age of 9 he was given his first guitar and playing music was a lifelong passion and he played in a number of bands. He attended school in Northfield graduating in 1974. In 1978 he was united in marriage to Brenda Glewwe and they had 2 children Luke and Autum. They were later divorced.

He worked at Sheldahl’s in Northfield for 21 years and then worked on the grounds crew for the Northfield School System. He later was on the school district’s maintenance-custodian staffs first at Red Wing and then Cannon Falls. In addition to his love for music he was an avid fan of the Vikings, Dundas Dukes Baseball, and Northfield Football teams. He bought his first motorcycle in 1975 and his first Harley Davidson in 1977 which he still rode. It was another of his passions, but music and his Harley came after his children and grandchildren. He was so devoted to and proud of all of them. Gus was a larger than life person and always the funniest guy in the crowd and the coolest. He was deeply loved and will be closely held in the hearts of his friends and family.
