David Timothy “Tim” Lane was born February 21, 1924, in Fillmore, Illinois, to Orville and Vida (Miller) Lane. Following high school he joined the US Army Air Corps. Tim married Peggy Norton on May 10, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah. During his military career he served in many locations, ending his career as Lt. Colonel and Commander of the ROTC program at St. Olaf College in Northfield. Following retirement Tim embarked on a second career as a Special Education Teacher. He taught in the Northfield School District and in the Marble Falls, Texas, School District until again retiring in 1996. After retirement Tim and Peggy remained in Texas until returning to the Northfield area in May 2010. Tim enjoyed nature, puzzles and his family. He was quiet, patient, and a man of strong faith who was devoted to his wife and family.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Peggy; 7 children: Pam (Jim) Metzler of Rochester, New York, Tim (Cheryl) of Dayton, Ohio, Terry (Kathy) of Winona, Michael of St. Louis and Northfield, Melodie of Minneapolis, Merry (Tom) Ross of Spicewood, Texas, Jamie (Jody) of Mason City, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Eric, Carl and Paul Metzler, Emily and Anna Lane, Ethan and Lydia Lane, Sam and Allie Lane, Kevin and Tyler Cornelius; 3 great-grandsons: Sean, Max and Lane; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Carl Metzler.

Tim passed away with his wife and children by his side on Sunday evening, June 14, 2015, at the Villages of Lonsdale (MN), at the age of 91.

A celebration of Tim’s life will be held at 10:00AM, Friday, June 19, 2015, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. Military Honors will follow. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Memorials are preferred to Northfield Hospice or the donor’s choice.
