Shirley Cannamore, age 77, of Northfield, passed from this life into the arms of her loving Lord and Savior on January 16, 2015 at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield. Funeral Services will be on Saturday February 28th at Northfield United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services. Interment was held January 20 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery; where she was laid to rest next to her loving husband, Ronald T. Cannamore.

Shirley May Griffin, the daughter of Roscoe and Ercile (Clark) Griffin was born on October 13, 1937 in Pensacola, Florida. The family moved to Austin, Texas when she was 2 years old. Shirley attended school in Austin and graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Shirley met her future husband, Ronald T. Cannamore, at the University of Texas, Austin, where they were both students. Their union on June 20, 1959 in Austin, Texas lasted 39 years before he preceded her in death on June 18, 1998.

Shirley adored young children and teaching them was her mission and passion in life. She was a member of the NAEYC and taught pre-school at the University of Texas before moving to Minnesota with her husband and children. She was a teacher and director for Judson Preschool in Minneapolis for many years.

In keeping with Shirley’s inherent nurturing spirit, her other passion was gardening. Following and assisting in her husband’s architectural career, she literally and beautifully bloomed wherever she was planted.

She was also involved in her children’s interests and volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, 4-H Leader and taught Sunday School/Confirmation Classes at Hennepin Ave United Methodist Church. She was involved in every aspect of her children’s lives from riding horses with her daughter to being a proud Alaska Airlines passenger with her son as co-pilot. Her grandchildren benefitted greatly from her influence and loving presence. She attended every school and sport function that she possibly could, hosted birthday parties and sleep-over’s, baked 1000’s of pies, cookies and cakes (that would inevitably tilt to one side!) She was a welcome addition on countless family outings and was called ‘mom’ and ‘grandma’ by more than just her own family.

Shirley is sorely missed and survived by her children; Allan (Kim) Cannamore of Eagle River, Alaska and Sharon (Joel) Schneider of Northfield, four grandchildren; David (Brittney) Cannamore, Jonathan Cannamore, Bo Cimino and Ashleigh Cimino, sister; Lorene Griffin of Dallas, Texas and many other loving relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Ron and brother; Robert Griffin.

In honor of Shirley’s kind and giving spirit, as she did on a daily basis, please continue to commit random acts of kindness and she would wish for you to always feel how much you are adored by your loving and gracious God.
