David Joseph Stanton was born March 19, 1952, the 8th of 13 children to William and Loretta (Ryan) Stanton of Northfield. David was a 1970 graduate of Northfield High School and remained a life-long Northfield resident. On April 26, 1975, David married Marcia Suss of New Market. They celebrated 40 years of marriage this past April.

David was fun-loving man who could always be counted on to share a long story and his booming, boisterous laugh. He had no greater passion than that for his family and sports. Together with Marcia he raised 3 children, was blessed with 11 wonderful grandchildren, and was excited for the arrival of his twelfth grandchild this fall. David and Marcia centered their lives on their children and grandchildren – attending every sporting, school or life-event possible. His children and grandchildren will greatly miss his steadfast support and constant presence.

Just as his father taught him, David taught his family to deeply love the game of baseball and the Minnesota Twins. In fact, he passed his love and passion for sports in general to everyone. After many stories about his great golf game, David finally nailed his first hole-in-one on July 2nd, 2015 – a proud achievement he bragged about daily. Combining his passion for both baseball and family, David, Marcia and 3 of their grandchildren recently headed to AT&T stadium in San Francisco to take in a Giants game with a large group of the Stanton family. But what made David the happiest was spending time with his grandkids, which he was able to do just this last weekend, as the entire family enjoyed a fantastic family vacation. He laughed, swam and played catch with them all for hours.

David is survived by his wife Marcia; son Chris and fiancée Heather and their children Alex, Mackenzie, Samantha, Lindsey, Rachel and Ben; daughter Renee (Chad) Butzler and their children Emma, Joey and Elsa; and daughter Shelby (Edwin) Oster and their children Ian and Marcus, all of Northfield; sisters Loretta (Val) Zweber of Prior Lake, Sister Loriann Stanton of St Paul, JoAnn (Ken) Egger of Spokane, WA, Patricia (Bill) Nelson of Northfield, Colleen (Leo) Skluzacek of Northfield, Mary Ellen (Jerry) Jirik of Lakeville, Monica (Kevin) Lynch of Northfield, Michelle (Patrick) Fox of Lakeville; brothers Bill (Jan) Stanton and Tim (Christine) Stanton both of Northfield. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Loretta (Ryan) Stanton and brothers Donald and Mark Stanton.

Safe home, David. Safe home.
