Alexander August Ernst was born December 7, 1916 in Bridgewater Township Minnesota to Anton and Lucy (DeMann) Ernste. He was united in marriage to Myrtle Marie Kienitz on February 25 1955. At the age of seven, Alex was introduced to beekeeping by his Uncle and Grandfather. His fascination with honeybees led him to start his business, Cannon Valley Honey at an early age. With numerous apiarys across the area he and his wife Myrtle, continued to tend the bees into his 90’s. Known by many in the area as “The Bee Man”, Alex would gladly help others by removing unwanted swarms of bees from houses and backyards. He also did his best to impart his knowledge of honeybees to new generations of beekeepers.

Alex is survived by one son Steve and wife Nancy of Cannon Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Myrtle, and two brothers Albert Ernste of Faribault and Fred DeMann of Northfield.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Three Links Care Center (Pathways).
