Richard “Rick” Stanley Nord was born on September 16, 1949, in Northfield to Stanley and Doris (Maring) Nord.  He was raised near Kenyon and there graduated from high school in 1968.  He entered into the United States Army on April 16, 1969, and served during the Vietnam War. He received his honorable discharge on November 19, 1971.

Richard worked his entire life as a mechanic in the automotive industry for various places around Faribault and Owatonna Ford Chrysler. Rick also drove truck for his father’s milk route for many years part time.

Rick was united in marriage to Sharon Kaatz in 1986 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. The couple made their home near Dundas.  He had a passion for politics and kept a fair and open mind.  He believed in truth and justice for all.  He was a quiet and a gentle man with a great smile, infectious laugh and a great sense of humor.  Underneath that exterior, Rick had a soft spot for animals even rescuing a kitty that tried to make it on its own.  Never able to have survived without Rick intervening, he nursed it back to health until they found a good home.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching football, reading, and traveling with the hopes of taking more trips with Sharon.  He will be sadly missed by all.

On Thursday afternoon, May 12, 2016, Rick passed away at his home under the care of hospice with his family at his side at the age of 66.  He is survived by his wife Sharon Nord of Dundas; three stepchildren Bob (and Shari) Erickson of Northfield; Lisa (and Tim) Donkers of Nerstrand; Jared Jones of Northfield; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his father Stanley Nord of Dennison; his brothers Larry (and Diane) Nord of Northfield; Bruce (and Michelle) Nord of Cannon Falls; Dave (and Michelle) Nord of Sleepy Eye; his sisters Sue (and Ron) Plank of Northfield; Doreen (and Don) Quistorff of Nerstrand; Anne Nord of Burnsville; Renee Nord of Duluth; and Deborah Nord of Northfield along with many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother Doris Nord; a brother Joe Nord; two nephews and one great nephew.

Services for Rick will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016 beginning at 11 AM at Vang Lutheran Church, Dennison with the Reverend Paul Graham officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.  Burial will take place at Groveland Cemetery in Dundas.  Military honors will be provided by the VFW and American Legion Honor Guard.  Arrangements by Bierman Funeral Home, Northfield.  biermanfuneralhome.com
