Peter “Pete” Stead was born on June 18, 1929 in Bridgeport, CT, to Frederick and Ruth (Harvey) Stead. Pete received his education at Choate, graduating with the class of 1947. He furthered his education at Colorado College and later earned a Masters Degree in Social work at Wayne State University. On October 28, 1972 Pete was united in marriage to Teresa Smith at Woodside, CA.\

After earning his MSW, Pete went to work for the Veterans Administration where he spent his entire career as a social worker, retiring in 1992 from the Veterans Administration Rehab Center in Menlo Park, CA. Upon retirement Pete and Terry bought a 6-acre farm near Murphys, CA where Pete devoted himself to his love of gardening and developing a one-acre vineyard. In 1991, Pete and Terry moved to an 8-acre farm near Northfield where he continued gardening and working on his land.

Pete enjoyed many activities including: visiting museums, traveling, golfing, playing with his dogs, but mostly hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends.

Pete is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Teresa; sister, Nancy Duble of North Branford, CT, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

On Tuesday morning, May 18, 2016, Pete passed away peacefully at the Cottages on Forest on the campus of the Three Links Care Center. Funeral Service will be at 10 AM on Monday, May 23, 2016, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Northfield. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 2 – 4 PM on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the Unitarian Fellowship on Monday. Memorial preferred to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Northfield.

Arrangements are with the Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield.

    Pete was a great man, and always made my days at work full of excitement and laughter. Pete you will truely be missed but not forgotten. I will never forget how you would always say “HEYYY!!!” to anybody ad everybody. Rest in Peace Peter.
