Gerald J. Fisher, age 92, of Faribault, died Sunday, November 6, 2016, at his home.

Gerald (Jerry), son of Albert O. and Nettie (Hruska) Fisher, was born July 10, 1924. He was the 3rd generation of the Fisher family on their farm in Clinton Falls Township, Steele County, MN. He attended school in Owatonna, graduating in the class of 1942. Jerry then enlisted in the United States Navy and served as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate in the Pacific theatre of WWII from 1942-46. After receiving his honorable discharge in1946, Gerald returned to Owatonna. He was united in marriage to Rachel Zanmiller on February 18th 1955 at St. Dominic’s Church in Northfield. They made their home in Rochester, where he worked as a PBX installer and telephone repairman for Northwestern Bell. After retirement, the couple moved to Lake Mazaska building their lake home in 1978. Rachel died in February of 2015.

Jerry loved being active and had an outside project every day, mowing, weeding, and fixing or building things. He was a meticulous craftsman, doing woodworking, carving and making model airplanes. He was fascinated with history in general and war history in particular and he also collected Fisher family history. He and Rachel hosted reunions of his VC-92 Squadron, and he traveled to Washington DC as part of the Honor Flights.

Gerald is survived by sons Alan of Victoria, TX and James (Rebecca Carson) of Montgomery, two granddaughters Aimée Fisher of Savage, and Sara Fisher of Sioux Falls, SD, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Rachel in 2015, his parents, twin brother Jerome and sister Marcella (Vaith).

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 12 at 12:30 PM at Church of St. Dominic with Father Denny Dempsey officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Northfield with military honors provided by the Northfield VFW and American Legion Honor Guard. Arrangements by Bierman Funeral Home.
