Lois Arlene Renneke, age 92, of Northfield, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017, at the Northfield Hospital Long Term Care Center.

Lois was born October 20, 1924, in Vesta, Minnesota, the daughter of Ernest and Florence (Krug) Rust. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Alice, and younger twins, Doris and Dale. She grew up, living through the depression and “dust bowl” on a small farm. She would share memories as a young child of riding her horse “Pansy” for miles to the one room school house, collecting water from a pump house for meals cooked on the old cook stove and heating water for baths and laundry, wearing a dress sewn from flour sack calico, and taking collected eggs to town to barter for groceries.

She graduated from Echo High School in 1942, as did Glenn W. Renneke, whom she married, on January 20, 1945. After their marriage, she lived at the Renneke farm near Wood Lake. They shared a life building a successful dairy and crop operation farm. She supported Glenn in their establishment of the “Renneke Arabians” horse farm. She entertained owners at their home and sewed costumes for the horse shows. They collected many grand trophy prizes. At her support, Glenn became a national Arabian horse show judge. Glenn died suddenly at age 47 in August 1972. It was a difficult time for all the family. Eventually Lois attended and graduated from a two-year vocational school in Moorhead, MN, traveled in Europe, and continued on with new life experiences.

Lois was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed writing poetry, playing guitar, singing, dancing, sewing, and playing golf. When she would visit family in Washington, she took classes and created many beautiful paintings–acrylics, oils, and water colors–an amazing artistic talent.
During her final years, Lois made her home in Northfield, MN where she spent time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed attending birthday parties, the occasional camping trip, and holiday gatherings.
Lois was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family. She is survived by a daughter, Carol (William) Gilbertson of Edgewood, WA, two sons, Mark (Karen) Renneke of Northfield, and Dean Renneke of Baxter, MN, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.

Services will be Saturday, April 22, 2017 beginning at 11 AM at Bierman Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Arrangements by Bierman Funeral Home. biermanfuneralhome.com
