Harold Haakon Hansen was born November 16, 1933 at home in rural Rice County, son of Haakon and Sadie (Von Wald) Hansen. He knew the world as a place with open fields and a small farm house with lamps and lanterns, where back in the 1940’s you would find a boy who enjoyed camping and hunting with his brother Donnie. He studied in a one room school house and helped his parents run the family farm.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. In 1954 he left his quiet farm behind and enlisted in the Army. He was discharged in 1956 and on March 22, 1958 he was united in marriage to Juanita Elvira Amy from Northfield. He worked road construction most of his life and had a road construction company with his brother-in-law, Daniel Swanson of Dundas, and later worked for a larger company in the Twin Cities.
Retirement took he and Juanita to Pine City where they built a home on Pokegama Lake. He had a large shop where he tinkered with projects and improved equipment. Harold loved lake life and fishing for many years with his kids and grandchildren until his health began to fail. After that his main interests were reading construction magazines and spending time on the computer.
Harold is survived by his wife of 59 years Juanita; sons Lonnie Hansen of Pine City, Darcy Hansen and fiancée Gina Sherman of Faribault; sister Audrey Hansen of Chaska; brother Donald (Bonnie) Hansen of Cromwell; grandchildren Crystal (Derek) Petty, Savannah Hansen and special friend Steve Sycks, Haakon (Jessica) Hansen, Justine Hansen, Jasmine Hansen, Jordan Hansen and Jackson Hansen; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents.
