Jim was born October 18, 1931, in Northfield Township, Minnesota, the son of Leonard and Anna (Rude) Lervik. He attended Longfellow Elementary school and then Northfield High School graduating in 1950. He was united in marriage to Lou Ann Haugen on May 24, 1952 at Dennison Lutheran Church. Jim worked for the local clothing store before purchasing the store and renaming it Jim’s Clothing. After selling the store, Jim worked night watch at St. Olaf College and sold seed corn. He later worked for the Northfield School District where he retired.

Jim had many interests, but he enjoyed fishing and fished wherever there was water. He also took pleasure in gardening and hunted agates. He had a wit about him and played an occasional prank. He was a hardworking man and a good provider for his family. “Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey to it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.” A quote by Samuel Smiles. Lou Ann and Jim spent Saturday, outside together, before he passed away, taking in the beautiful sunshine, blue sky and warmth on his face. An end to a wonderful life.

Jim passed away, Sunday, April 23, 2017, at the Northfield Hospital-Long Term Care, at the age of 85. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lou Ann of Northfield, three daughters Deborah (Bernie) Budin of Northfield, Laurie (Bill) Forster of Minneapolis, Heidi Lervik of Phoenix, AZ, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a brother, Dale Lervik of Edgerton, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents.
