Richard Lyle Kasa was born January 7, 1939 in Red Wing, MN, son of Herman and Loraine (Lindell) Kasa. He was raised on his parent’s farm near Dennison, MN and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1957. Growing up he helped on the farm with field work, bailing hay, and milking cows. Following school he began a long career at Malt-O-Meal in Northfield retiring in 2001 after 43 years.
On August 2, 1958 he was united in marriage to Judy Ann Simonson and they made their home in Dennison for the first 2 years and then moved to Northfield. Here they raised their 2 daughters and in 1979 began as foster parents and over the years had more than 250 foster children in their home. Dick found great pleasure in helping these kids and spent many hours after work playing cards and board games with them.
Dick was a kind man who would help anyone with anything when asked. He was very mechanical and enjoyed fixing things for family and friends and also liked woodworking. He loved to garden and every spring planted many flowers at home and took particular care making his yard colorful and well maintained. In the summer they would go to their cabin on Lake Minnewaska near Starbuck, MN where Dick spent time outdoors and in his pontoon boat on the lake.
Richard Kasa is survived by his wife Judy; daughters Kim (Bruce) Stowe and Bonnie (Tom) Stowe both of Northfield; brother Larry Kasa of Cottage Grove; sister-in-law Donna Kasa of Northfield; brother-in-law Lenny Simonson of Nerstrand; grandchildren Darrin (Andrea) Stowe, Lauren Stowe, Jenna Stowe, Jared Stowe; great grandson Mason; and many nieces, nephews, and foster children.
