Alden T. “Mac” McCutchan, 97, passed away peacefully December 23, 2018 at his Sogn Valley farm home with family by his side. He was born on April 10, 1921 to Blaine Ross and Josephine Layman McCutchan. Alden T. “Mac” McCutchan, 97, passed away peacefully December 23, 2018 at his Sogn Valley farm home with family by his side. He was born on April 10, 1921 to Blaine Ross and Josephine Layman McCutchan.

After graduating from Bloomington MN high school, he attended Winona State Teachers College, served as a radar officer in the US Navy Pacific Fleet from 1943-46, and then had a long and distinguished career in public education. He served as a science teacher and coach at Mahtomedi (MN) High School, an associate principal at St. Anthony High School, and Dean of Students at West Concord High School. After his retirement, he continued to assist local students with their training, college, and career planning.

Mac and his wife, Margaret, maintained a wide network of friends and family, welcoming visitors from near and far. He pursued many personal interests including nature study, gardening, the Society of Friends (Quakers), and political activities. His life exemplified the Testimonies of the Society of Friends: integrity, simplicity, peace, stewardship, community, and equality, seeing “that of God” in all people and in all of creation. Mac’s life was a full expression of good humor, curiosity, wisdom and love.

Survived by: brother Bruce McCutchan, sister Janice Wright; sons Duncan McCutchan (Barbara) and John McCutchan (Denise), daughter Cara Rodriguez, son-in- law Gus Wilks; seven grandchildren, six great-grand- children and many extended family members. Preceded in death by: wife Margaret, brothers Rodney and Tom McCutchan, sisters Mary Jo Peterson and Patricia Bergh, and son Larkin Mead (Alan McCutchan).

An open celebration of Mac’s life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at the White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church in Mahtomedi (at 328 Maple Street) followed by a reception at the church.
