Blanche Aldrich, age 97 of Northfield passed away Monday evening, December 17, 2018, in her home with her family caring for her. Blanche Mary (Taylor) Aldrich was born on October 17, 1921, in Randolph, MN, to William and Ardelle (Turnacliff) Taylor. She grew up with her family on a dairy farm southwest of Randolph. Blanche attended country school and graduated from Randolph High School. On June 6, 1941, she married Paul Aldrich of Northfield, MN. Together they raised their six children on a dairy, chicken, and hog farm at the south end of Maple Street in Northfield. Paul and Blanche found the greatest treasure in their lives when they invited Jesus to be Lord of their lives in 1949. At that time the Cornerstone Community Church became their place of ministry and spiritual growth. Together they loved sharing the Lord and opened their home with those the Lord brought into their lives. The main priorities in their lives were their love for Jesus, family and friends. In addition to raising six children, Paul and Blanche opened their home to around six children as foster parents. Before insurance became so expensive, they rented horses to the Northfield community, St. Olaf and Carleton students. There was always something happening on the Aldrich farm and often, during the afternoon coffee break time before the evening chores, countless community friends joined them for a light snack and Blanche’s homemade desserts. Paul and Blanche retired from the family farm in 1978, and moved to Shields Lake, and enjoyed fishing and sharing their home with others. During their first year of retirement from the farm, they worked at the Jolly Green Giant factory in Montgomery, MN, canning corn for one season. They also traveled south in the winter with two different mission organization, US MAPS and Sowers and Reapers assisting missionaries and ministries on construction projects while living in their RV. With these organizations, they volunteered by working for two weeks or more anywhere in the south during the cold Minnesota winter months. They developed many good friendships and assisted with many ministry projects. In 1993, they decided it was time to move back to Northfield where they would be closer to their family.

Blanche is survived by her children: David (Janet) Aldrich, Joyce Aldrich, Philip (LuAnn) Aldrich, Stephen (Kathy) Aldrich, Ruth Aldrich, and sister Doris Thompson all living in Northfield; nine grandchildren Noel Aldrich, Lori Eveland, Julie Frederick, Gina Little, Scott Aldrich, Ian Aldrich, Alyssa Moss, Andy Aldrich, Corey Aldrich, Chad Aldrich, Adam Aldrich; 31 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Carlyle (Barbara) Aldrich. Blanche was preceded in death by her husband Paul, brothers Paul Taylor, Robert Taylor, Warren Taylor, Walter Taylor, brothers-in-law James Thompson and Allen Johnston, sisters-in-law Faith Johnston, Elaine Taylor, Evelyn Taylor, and her son Kenneth Aldrich.

Services will be 1:00PM, Friday, December 21, 2018, at Cornerstone Community Church in Northfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service and a reception will follow. Interment was in Prairie Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7PM, Thursday, December 20, 2018, at the Bierman Funeral Home.

I am privileged to have known Blanche through church when she would visit Arizona after the passing of her husband. We immediately took a shine to her and her daughter Ruth as they shared about how God was working in their lives. Always encouraging others and enjoying His blessings, it was special to be around Blanche and family. My heart grieves, but also rejoices that she is finally home.

Sending our sympathy and love during this time. I have many fond memories of Blanche and the Aldrich family at the Northfield church many years ago. May God give you peace.
