C. Craig Grandahl, 69, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019 at his home on the outskirts of Northfield.

Craig was born on January 3, 1950, in Moose Lake, MN. Most of his childhood was spent on the family farm, west of Moose Lake in Split Rock township, where he was surrounded by a large extended family including many uncles that taught him how to trap, hunt, fish, play baseball, cuss, and many other valuable lessons. After graduating from Moose Lake High School with the class of 1968, he rode a Honda motorcycle to Alaska where he spent a summer before returning to Minnesota and marrying the love of his life, Donna Sopoci on January 2, 1970. Craig then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. After leaving the service Craig and Donna settled their family in Webster MN and later in life moved to Wisconsin and then Northfield.

Craig was a master of all trades. Utilizing his Naval education as an electrical technician he spent most of his career working in the computer networking scene, during the onset of the internet. Outside of his career he spent countless hours wrenching in his shop. Auto and tractor restorations, fabrication and welding projects along with small engine repair were just a few of the many things he loved to spend his time on. There are countless repairs, buildings, wiring jobs, etc, that will always be there to remind friends and family of his willingness to help anyone with a project.  While he wasn’t working in the shop, Craig enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, motorcycle trips, war and cowboy movies, attending farm auctions and a good BS session with anyone willing to partake. He was a big believer in family, adored his grandkids and always carried a positive attitude. If heaven allows political banter, has any repair projects in queue, and has an endless supply of black coffee and hotdogs, Craig will be a perfect fit.

Craig is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna; four children, Stacie (Terry Hermanson) Grandahl, Kyle (Sarah) Grandahl, Doug (Sunshine) Grandahl, and Clint (Katy-Jo) Grandahl. Eight grandchildren, Devon (Lucy), Samantha, Matt, Radley, Annabelle, Clinton III, Zeke, and William; parents, Roger (Grace) Grandahl and JoAnn Suomala; siblings, Sara, Paul, Pat, Sandy, Susie, Bonnie, and Becky; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many other relatives.

Craig was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Aileen Halverson, Art and Ann Grandahl, and stepfather, Al Suomala.

Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Bierman Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held at a later date in Moose Lake, MN.

Donna & Family, May peace and comfort be with you during this difficult time. Craig was a childhood friend & high school classmate. I know he fought a valiant battle against his cancer. He was a true Patriot🇺🇸

Donna and family. Craig was one of a kind. The world lost a great man. I had such a blast working with craig driving bus and having him a part of the “breakfast club”. It will never be the same. We will all miss him terribly.
