Dale Young, age 86, of Northfield, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Three Links Care Center. Dale was born May 16, 1932, the son of Luther and Laura (Paquette) Young in Faribault. He attended school in Medford and entered the United States Air Force on October 20, 1948, and received his honorable discharge on June 17, 1949. Dale Young, age 86, of Northfield, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Three Links Care Center.

Dale was born May 16, 1932, the son of Luther and Laura (Paquette) Young in Faribault. He attended school in Medford and entered the United States Air Force on October 20, 1948, and received his honorable discharge on June 17, 1949. Upon returning to Faribault, he went to visit a friend at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School and also ended up meeting Isabelle, who had been working at the school. The couple was united in marriage on December 12, 1950, in Wadena, Minnesota. They made their home in Northfield where he worked for Campbell Dairy Company. He then went on to study the paint trade at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and worked for Flour City Ornamental Iron Works Company.

The couple returned to Northfield and he began Young’s Paint Center in Dundas along with being a commercial and residential contract painter. He traveled throughout a five-state area painting for Phillips 66 Gas stations. He sold his business to his two sons, Bruce and Faron. The couple retired in 1993 and moved to Florida. In 2014, they returned to Northfield.

During Dale’s 57 years of sobriety, he helped start two AA groups located in Northfield and Florida. He enjoyed working with wood, making crafts and traveling with Isabelle throughout Florida going to craft shows. In Florida, he took up fishing and on one occasion a resident noticed Dale fishing late in the night and in the same spot the next morning. He wondered if Dale went home to sleep or just fished all night. Dale had many other interests as well like playing cards, golfing and collecting Metropolitan automobiles. He was an easy going man, loved life and had a strong faith.

He is survived by his wife Isabelle of Northfield; two sons Bruce (Lori) of Northfield; Faron of Northfield; a daughter Susan (Robbie) Harper of Sandpoint, ID; five grandchildren Isaac; Dylan; Anthony; Gwen; Brandon; three great-grandchildren Caitlyn; Nicholas; Alaya; and a sister Beverly Young of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Dart Luther Young and his siblings Darlene; Gloria; Helen; Richard and Nancy.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 1, 2019, beginning at 2:00 PM at Bierman Funeral Home with Reverend Armand Boehme officiating. Visitation will from 12:30 until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Groveland Cemetery in Dundas at a later date.
