Debra Lynn Cheney, age 55, of Northfield, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019, at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis with her family at her side. Debra was born August 11, 1964, in Minneapolis. She was adopted and received in love and as an infant by Gary and Luanna (Hanson) Cheney. She was raised in Bloomington where she attended school through junior high school. Debra Lynn Cheney, age 55, of Northfield, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019, at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis with her family at her side.

Debra was born August 11, 1964, in Minneapolis. She was adopted and received in love and as an infant by Gary and Luanna (Hanson) Cheney. She was raised in Bloomington where she attended school through junior high school. Debra then attended Northfield High School and Jesus is Lord Academy in Rosemount where she graduated in 1982.
Debs participation and love for Teen Mission work led her to study at Bethany College of Missions in Bloomington where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Theology and Cross-Cultural Communications. Deb continued to spread her faith with mission outreach throughout the world including Mexico, Brazil, Albania, and France. Her mission work came with personal sacrifices and she was driven by her faith and love of the people she helped along the way. Upon her return to the states, Debra worked for North Dakota Adult and Teen Challenge for several years and created their Women’s Program.
Debra loved music and was a skilled musician, songwriter and worship leader. She was highly competitive and in high school held the Northfield High School Girl’s diving record for several years. She loved her family and had a special place in her heart for animals especially her many dogs.
She is survived by her parents Gary and Luanna (Hanson) Cheney of Northfield; two brothers Darryl (Beth) Cheney of Los Angeles, CA, Richard Cheney of Galveston, TX. She is also survived by a nephew Brent (Liz) Cheney; two nieces Erin Cheney, Hilary O’Bannon; and great-nephew Charlie Cheney.

Funeral services will be at Life 21Church in Northfield MN on Saturday, December 21 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10:00 AM. Arrangements by Bierman Funeral Home. biermanfuneralhome.com.

    I was one of debs students at TEEN challenge of north Dakota , I’m very saddened to just hear about this thanks to debs faith in JESUS and exhorting me and my girls into the program I’m happy to say I’m 13 years sober of drug addiction and GOD took my seizures and depression away
