Donald Willard Lehman passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Three Links Care Center. Donald was born on June 27, 1931 in Rochester to Willard Paul and Mary Florence (Waller). After moving to Austin at nine years old, he graduated from Austin High School in 1949. Don was a member of ROTC and joined the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving during the Korean conflict. Donald Willard Lehman passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Three Links Care Center.
Donald was born on June 27, 1931 in Rochester to Willard Paul and Mary Florence (Waller). After moving to Austin at nine years old, he graduated from Austin High School in 1949. Don was a member of ROTC and joined the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving during the Korean conflict. He was stationed aboard the U.S. Submarine, Redfin, based in New London, CT, and was discharged in 1954 in San Diego. He then attended Syracuse University, taking language training in Serbo-Croation, and joined the Air Force, serving in Germany.
After discharge, he returned to the states and attended the University of MN, graduating in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Business. Post college, Don spent his entire career working for Unisys Corporation. After retirement, he worked for the Internal Revenue Service.
Don had many hobbies and interests. He was a loyal fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Gophers. He also loved listening to big band music, reading, traveling and playing bridge. Don was passionate about diet, exercise and playing tennis. He enjoyed these activities into his early eighties.
Don is survived by his wife Nancy; son Forrest; daughter-in-law Jenny; grandchildren Jacob, Riley, and Quentin; stepchildren Jim Gustafson, Wendy Deutsch; step grandchildren Jessica Eckdahl, Adam Eckdahl and Cassandra Deutsch.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Willard and Florence; and sister Patricia Ann Brown.
A service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the First United Church of Christ, 300 Union Street, Northfield, with a visitation one hour prior.
Memorials may be designated to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3224 6th Ave. NE, Unit A, Rochester, MN 55906, or First United Church of Christ, Northfield.
