Eugene E. Freeman, age 66, of Dundas, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Eugene was born the son of Winston and Donna (Cheney) Freeman on April 19, 1953, in Austin, Texas.  An Air Force brat, Eugene moved with his family quite often and lived in Illinois, Germany, Spain, and the Philippines before moving to the Ellsworth AFB near Rapid City, South Dakota.  There he graduated from high school.  Following school, he attended St. Olaf College, the University of Wisconsin in Madison and the University of Minnesota.  He was always passionate about science and medicine.  Eugene was a unique and brilliant man.  He enjoyed staying busy throughout his life and worked mostly in the software industry.  Eugene worked for Epicor Software in Minneapolis as a systems support analyst. He previously conducted biochemical research at the Veterans Administration Hospital.

Eugene was hardworking, curious and active. He loved learning for the sake of it.  He would ride his bike from Dundas to the Gould Library on the campus of Carleton College just to further educate himself.  He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and camping practice.  He saw the beauty and peacefulness of the Boundary Waters where he loved to spend time.  He also loved traveling and visited Mexico, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Mexico, Greece, Costa Rica, and Las Vegas.  He spoke 4 languages. As a member of The Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior in Faribault, Eugene was very active in church and sang in the choir.  He absorbed music and often listened to Chopin and Beethoven.   A man that could fix anything, Eugene was meticulous about his work and referred to as “Mr. Fix-It.”

He is survived by his son Jesse of Dundas; a daughter Ashley of Malden, MA; a grandson Hassan of Malden; two brothers David (Rebecca) of Minneapolis, Craig of Trimont, MN; and a sister Nada Oanes of Trimont.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
