Frances Blom, 72, of Faribault, formerly of Dundas, died Sunday, January 12, 2020 at New Perspectives Senior Living in Faribault.

Frances Eileen Grant was born to Richard and Rosella (Thielbar) Grant on May 12, 1947 in Northfield. She was raised in Dundas and graduated from Northfield High School in 1966. After graduating she went on to cosmetology school and Dakota County AVTI where she earned an associate’s degree in finance. During this time, she had two children, Teresa and Eileen that she raised in Northfield and Waseca. Her free time was spent dancing, swimming, and gardening.

Frances met Daryl Blom at a singles group gathering, and eventually were married on July 9, 1982. They settled on a farm in Dundas, which Frances loved. During their time living in Dundas, Frances worked at K-Mart as a department manager for many years. She had a great passion for gardening, especially flowers. Frances and Daryl spent their free time bowling, camping and fishing. Their camping trips even took them up to Canada. Daryl stated: “There was nothing better than to see her smile in Canada.”

Frances lived a simple loving life while also being an independent, energetic, go-getter. Frances never lost that spark throughout the progression of dementia. That spark would also inspire everyone around her.

Frances is survived by her husband, Daryl; children, Eileen Nations and Theresa (Jeff) Schmidtke of Faribault; grandchildren, Shannon, Shelby, Cynthia, Curtis, and Brittany. Siblings, Mary (David) Giefer, Gary Grant and Gail (Carl) Almen; Daryl’s children, Merle Blom, Bruce (Karen) Blom, Linda (Ray) Rasmussen, and Jan Blom; and Daryl’s many grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members from both sides.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Rosella; brothers Edwin and Gene; and granddaughter Ashley.

A funeral service for Frances will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at the Bierman Funeral Home Chapel, 1316 Division Street South, Northfield. Visitation will be one-hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Medford.

Our deepest sympathy to you, Daryl, on the passing of Frances. I wish we would have known and we would have come to her funeral. I just came across her obituary this afternoon while on my phone. We no longer have our land line phone so you wouldn’t have been able to contact us anyway. We still are living on the farm, but I don’t know how long we can remain here. Thinking of you.

My sincere condolences to the family. I haven’t seen Francis or other family members in several decades although I have fond memories of our childhood antics and mischievousness. Those were good times.
