Gene Grant, age 66, or Faribault, formerly of Dundas, passed away at his home Thursday, January 25, 2018, after a courageous fight against cancer and with his family at his side.

Gene was born September 1, 1951, the son of Richard and Rosella (Thielbar) Grant in Northfield. He was raised in Dundas and attended elementary school and later attended Northfield High School. Gene married Sharon Snyder on October 4, 1969. Shortly after, on February 3, 1970, Gene enlisted in the armed forces and proudly served with the United States Marine Corps. He received his honorable discharge on February 2, 1972 and moved to Faribault. He was employed with the Northfield School District in the maintenance department. He then worked in Isle, Minnesota where he worked on a boat launch at a local resort. Sharon and Gene later divorced.

Gene moved to the Dundas area where he worked as maintenance supervisor at Three Links Care Center. He then went on to work for Fareway, Green Grain, Holden Milling and for Mark Bauer before taking a position at Kemps in Farmington in 2001. During that time, Gene was united in marriage to Stacy Peterson on August 14, 1998, in Faribault. The couple made their home in Faribault.

Gene enjoyed camping, fishing and taking his family to state parks. When he began camping, one of the first campers he owned was a beloved bus that he called, simply enough, “Da Bus.” Although he loved watching NASCAR and the Minnesota Vikings, he rarely missed listening or watching the Minnesota Twins. He loved a good cup of coffee and listening to music.

He is survived by his wife, Stacy of Faribault; three sons, Richard of Medford, Jesse (Marissa) of Kasson, Jordan of Faribault; two daughters, Tricia Grant of Medford, Nina Grant of Faribault; 10 grandchildren; brother Gary Grant (Mary Melstrom) of Woodbury; three sisters, Francis (Daryl) Blom of Faribault, Mary (David) Giefer of Faribault, Gail (Carl) Almen of Northfield; his father and mother-in-law, Gary and Dianne Peterson of Northfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Lacy Eve Van Veldhuisen and Austin Grant; a brother, Edwin; his grandparents and a cousin, Joe Benzick.

Funeral services will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, beginning at 11 AM with the Reverend David Weeks officiating. Visitation will be Monday, January 29, 2018, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Bierman Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service in the church. Gene will be laid to rest near his parents at Union Cemetery in Medford.
