Goldie Halvorson, age 96, of Northfield, passed away peacefully Monday, February 3, 2020, with her family at her side. Goldie was born the daughter of Albert and Anna (Patz) Jacobs on September 19, 1923, in Montrose, South Dakota. As a small child, she moved with her family to a farm in the Castle Rock/Randolph area. Goldie Halvorson, age 96, of Northfield, passed away peacefully Monday, February 3, 2020, with her family at her side.

Goldie was born the daughter of Albert and Anna (Patz) Jacobs on September 19, 1923, in Montrose, South Dakota. As a small child, she moved with her family to a farm in the Castle Rock/Randolph area. There she attended school. She was united in marriage to Leonard Groth on November 4, 1944. From this union five children were born, Robert, Suzanne, Charles, Michael, and Kenneth. Leonard died in a work accident November 30,1957. After Leonard’s death, Goldie moved her family to Northfield. Now a widowed mother of five young children, Goldie worked hard to provide for her children. She began a 35-year career working in the test lab at Sheldahl Company. She was married to Orlien Halvorson on September 22, 1961. They made their home on the family farm near Dennison. Goldie and Orlien both loved to travel and together they did extensive travel from coast to coast in the United States, also visiting Alaska, Canada, and Mexico. Orlien passed away September 26, 2014.

Goldie had grit, was strong-willed and determined. She loved gardening, quilting, and fellowship with friends over coffee following church.

She is survived by her children Suzanne (Gary) Schuetzle, Charles (Betty) Groth, Michael (Robbie) Groth all of Northfield, Kenneth Groth of Isle, MN; daughter-in-law Barbara Groth of Northfield; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren (soon to be 19); and one great-great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. Goldie was preceded in death by her husbands Leonard and Orlien; a son Robert; grandson David; her parents and siblings.

Funeral services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, beginning at 1:00 PM with the Reverend Brent Klein officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Private family burial will be at Prairie Creek Cemetery near Northfield. Memorials are preferred to Prairie Creek Cemetery, Northfield Hospice, or Trinity Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Bierman Funeral Home and Crematory. biermanfuneralhome.com.
