James J. Scott, age 68, of Northfield, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017, at his home. James was born February 16, 1949, the son of LeRoy and Myrl (Miller) Scott of Farmington, Minnesota. He graduated from Farmington high school in 1967. On September 14, 1968, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hagen from Castle Rock. James J. Scott, age 68, of Northfield, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017, at his home. James was born February 16, 1949, the son of LeRoy and Myrl (Miller) Scott of Farmington, Minnesota. He graduated from Farmington high school in 1967. On September 14, 1968, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hagen from Castle Rock. Then on January 3, 1969, Jim entered the United States Army and served overseas in Nin Wah, South Vietnam, as a helicopter mechanic. Following his tour of duty in Vietnam, the couple moved to Fort Hood, Texas until his discharge. He then joined the Army Reserves at Fort Snelling for the 20 years where he taught nuclear, biological and chemical warfare. They made their home in rural Northfield. Jim worked in the industrial maintenance department for Hitchcock Industries in Bloomington for 38 years. He then went to work at Treasure Island Resort and Casino in environmental services until his retirement.

Jim was kind hearted and a friend to all. He had a great sense of humor and was a jokester. He loved tinkering in his garage and woodworking. Jim enjoyed taking his family camping and traveling to many states and throughout Canada. He was a huge Vikings and NASCAR fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Dorothy, two daughters Sarah Emanuelson of Northfield, Jennifer (John) Wald of Hudson, WI, three grandchildren Bethany and Shelby Emanuelson, Christian Wald, great-granddaughter Aaliyah Emanuelson, two brothers Gerald (Lou) of Farmington, Gene of Northfield, two sisters JoAnn (Alan) Fliegel of New Trier, Jill (Rick) Thelen of Northfield, six nephews, six nieces and a wonderful family of great friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Judy Camel.

Funeral services for Jim will be at Bierman Funeral Home on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at 11 AM with the Reverend Jonathan Davis officiating. Visitation will be Friday, November 3, 2017, from 4 PM to 7 PM in the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
