James Roald Moberg, age 71, of Northfield, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, St. Mary’s Campus, after two years of compounding health issues and more recent complications following heart surgery.

James was born to George and Ordella (Rugroden) Moberg on November 20, 1946, in Osceola, WI. He began his education in Fergus Falls, Minnesota and later moved to Northfield where he graduated in 1965. James spent a year at Michigan State University studying agriculture before transferring to Control Data to pursue studies in electronics. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and specialized in radar repair while stationed in Baudette, MN. James married Audrey Lynch on April 4, 1970, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Together they made their home in Northfield and were blessed with four daughters. James owned his own recycling business and in 1981 he joined the staff of the Northfield Retirement Community, eventually becoming the Director of Plant Operations. During his tenure, he oversaw the expansion of the facility and the addition of several buildings until he retired in 2012. Audrey, his wife and the love of his life, died on July 16, 2008.

Throughout his life, James filled the lives of his family and friends with his generosity, service, and love. From a young age, he was interested in how things work and adept at tinkering, fixing, and building. He used these skills for his job, in service to Bethel Lutheran Church, in the construction of his own home, and to assist anyone who needed help. James found joy in the simple things in life, from watching wildlife out his windows to taking the scenic route to his destinations to being with family. He was a patient father and took pride in raising his daughters and seeing his grandchildren grow. He instilled in his daughters a love of nature through their family camping trips. While James was a man of few words, he was a gifted storyteller, inspiring laughter and joy in listeners. He raised his daughters to be like him: strong, capable, independent, and caring.

He is survived by four daughters, Jennie (Anthony Pierre) Moberg of Northfield, Carrie (Ted) Wilder of Savage, MN, Cathie (Chad) Skluzacek of Nerstrand, MN, Laurie (Dustin Fedie) Moberg of Minneapolis, MN; six grandchildren, Nathan and Megan Wilder, Caden, Kayla, Kamren and Kenlie Skluzacek; brother, Michael (Claudia) Moberg of Burnsville, MN; mother-in-law, Eunice Lynch of Northfield; sisters-in-law, Lola Moberg of Apple Valley, MN, and Elaine Lynch of Land O’ Lakes, FL, brothers-in-law Kevin (Monica) Lynch of Northfield, Gary (Susie) Lynch of Northfield, Ken (Jackie Cheney) Lynch of Northfield, Rick Hangen of Valrico, FL, and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey; parents, George and Ordella Moberg; brother, David; father-in-law, Donald Lynch; and sister-in-law, LaVonne Hangen.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Jim and I worked together at Bethel for many years, keeping up the Boiler system and all of the snow plowing that Jim did for Bethel will be greatly missed.
