Janna L. Miller, age 39, of Northfield, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Methodist Campus as a result of an aggressive form of inflammatory breast cancer. Janna was born the daughter of Kent and Allene (West) Detlie on April 27, 1978, in Minneapolis. In 1989, the family moved to Northfield and in 1996, Janna graduated from Northfield High School. She was united in marriage to Eric Miller on March 8, 1997, at the United Methodist Church in Waseca. Eric was serving in the United States Air Force and after their marriage, the couple moved to McGuire AFB, New Jersey where Janna worked as an office assistant for a wedding stationery company.

In August of 2000, they moved to Elmendorf AFB, Alaska where she worked for Primerica Insurance. In 2004, the couple were blessed with a son, Weston. Janna became a stay at home mother raising Weston who was born with severe nut allergies. Janna would later become an advocate for those who suffer from food allergies. In 2006, they moved to Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota and in 2010 to Whiteman AFB, Missouri. In 2016, after 20 years of service in the Air Force, Eric retired and they moved to Northfield.

Janna was an extremely intelligent and loving mother. One of her missions was to bring awareness to the severity of food allergies. While living in Missouri, she worked with the staff at Kauffman Stadium where the Kansas City Royals play. Because of Weston’s love for baseball, she was instrumental in helping provide the opportunity for families of those with allergies to attend games in the nut-free skyboxes. Janna worked closely with the many schools that Weston attended to provide a safe, nut-free environment. She was driven and passionate about what she believed in and could accomplish, not only for her child but for other children with food allergies.

Janna was outgoing, humorous and fun loving. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was loved by so many.

Janna is survived by her husband Eric of Northfield, son Weston, her parents Kent and Allene of Northfield, a sister Tricia (Jerry) Eskridge of Dundas, niece Caitlynn Nelson, nephew Tyler Nelson, father and mother-in-law Roy and Cindy Miller of Waseca and a brother-in-law Nathan Miller of South Korea.

Allene and Kent, my sister keeps me up with northfield news and I wanted you to know how deeply saddened I am in learning of the passing of your daughter Janna. While I didn’t know her it is obvious that she is a beautiful talented young lady. Now your life has changed, somethings don’t always go according to natural plan. In 1998 we lost our 17 year old son due to a car accident. I’m not going to kid you, this is the hardest journey to encounter. You two now have a hole that in time, like physical wounds, will scab and scar and will become manageable, its apart of you. My best advise in these early months is to be kind to yourselves and feel joy in the remberance of the 39 years you had with Janna, no one can take that from you. Our sincere sympathies and love, fred and liz neff
