Joseph J. Stanton, age 70, of Ellendale, formerly of Hazelwood, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017, at his home after a brief illness. Joe was born October 5, 1947, the son of John and Helen (Winter) Stanton in Northfield. He was baptized and confirmed his faith at Annunciation Catholic Church-Hazelwood. Joseph J. Stanton, age 70, of Ellendale, formerly of Hazelwood, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017, at his home after a brief illness. Joe was born October 5, 1947, the son of John and Helen (Winter) Stanton in Northfield. He was baptized and confirmed his faith at Annunciation Catholic Church-Hazelwood. Joe attended Northfield High School graduating in 1965. Joe helped on the family farm while in high school and until entering the United States Army in 1967 and serving from 1968 to 1969 in Vietnam. He received his honorable discharge and returned to Hazelwood where he was united in marriage to Donna Rezac on April 18, 1970 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli.

Joe worked various jobs before the family moved to Browerville, Minnesota in 1981, where they farmed until 1994. They moved to St. Cloud after Joe’s retirement due to health reasons and later moved to Ellendale. Joe enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, woodworking and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife Donna of Ellendale; a son Lonnie (Niki) of Apple Valley; daughter Anne Kreikemeier of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren Hank Stanton; Cash Stanton; Evan Schuna; Elliana Moore; Tucker, Samantha and Shelby Kreikemeier; sister Rosemary Speiker of Northfield and mother-in-law Sylvia Rezac of Lonsdale. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Peyton Kreikemeier, father-in-law Edward Rezac, and brother-in-law Cletus Speiker.

Funeral services will be at Church of the Annunciation rural Northfield on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 1:30 PM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be held at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls on Friday, January 12, 2018. Arrangements by Bierman Funeral Home. biermanfuneralhome.com.

    I am so sorry to hear this. Glad I got to see him at the 70th BD party this summer. He looked so well then I really didn’t expect this. Joe was one of the ‘nice guys’ in high school!
