Kenneth John Ruckh, age 94, of Northfield, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Three Links Care Center. Kenneth, or better known as John, was born the son of John and Martha (Spangenberg) Ruckh on May 8, 1925, in Hartford, CT. There he attended high school and on his 17th birthday enlisted in the United States Navy. John served as a Gunner’s Mate in the South Pacific, including the Guatemala canal and received his honorable discharge December 12, 1945. Kenneth John Ruckh, age 94, of Northfield, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Three Links Care Center.

Kenneth, or better known as John, was born the son of John and Martha (Spangenberg) Ruckh on May 8, 1925, in Hartford, CT. There he attended high school and on his 17th birthday enlisted in the United States Navy. John served as a Gunner’s Mate in the South Pacific, including the Guatemala canal and received his honorable discharge December 12, 1945. He was united in marriage to Marian Newell on April 6, 1946 in Connecticut. The couple moved to Marshall, Minnesota where John began working as an apprentice in the plumbing trade. In 1951, the couple moved to St. Louis Park and John would begin his own plumbing business. Following retirement, they moved to Clearwater, Florida. Marian died in June of 2008. Later, John moved to Northfield to be closer to family.

John was known as an excellent woodcarver. The cedar chest that he built for his daughter won first place at the Minnesota State Fair. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. John loved Northfield and made many enduring friendships while making his home at Parkview West.

He is survived by daughter Susan (David) Hagen of Northfield; his son James (Mary Tordella) Ruckh of Boise, ID; grandchildren Marit and Tim Oberle, Solveig and Erik Ophaug, Elizabeth Ruckh, Tim Ruckh, Madelene Lindqvist, Dan and Alisha Ruckh; great grandchildren Ingrid and Alma Oberle, Evelyn and Lucas Ruckh, and Avery and Mia Ruckh. He was preceded in death by his wife Marian; his parents John and Martha (Spangenberg) Ruckh; and his sister Harriet Lovelace.
