Lavina Mae Stadstad, age 95, of Faribault, formerly of Dennison, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020 at New Perspectives in Faribault.

Lavina was born the daughter of Otto and Ella (Hanson) Bartels on October 26, 1924, in Rochester, Minnesota. She was raised in Elgin, Minnesota where she attended school and graduated valedictorian. She then attended Minneapolis Business College and later worked at Mayo Clinic as a secretary. During her time at Mayo, she had the honor of taking dictation for Harry Blackmun, who later became a Chief Justice. Lavina was united in marriage to Leroy “Bud” Stadstad on October 10, 1953, in Elgin. In 1959, the couple purchased the Dennison Mill and Elevator and operated it for 30 years until their retirement. Bud passed away in 2009.

Lavina and Bud enjoyed traveling, along with golfing and bowling in mixed leagues. She enjoyed a good game of bridge, sewing, knitting, cooking and had an extensive flower garden. Lavina and Bud enjoyed retirement and spent winters in Arizona for 19 years. Mostly though, Lavina will be remembered as a sweet, kind, and caring lady. She always wanted to make others happy and visitors couldn’t get out the door without Lavina making sure they were fed. Even in her later years and living with dementia, Lavina was always smiling and kind.

She is survived by her son Karl (Jean) of Morristown, AZ; three daughters Kari Stadstad of Northfield; Lori (Darwin) Amy of Dennison; Martha (Mark) Larson of Eagan; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother Robert Bartels of Rochester; and sister Bernice “Bunny” Lantz of Northfield. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter-in-law Patty Stadstad and a sister Lorraine Seaman.

A private family graveside service will take place at Prairie Creek Cemetery near Dennison. A Celebration of life service will be held at a later date at Dennison Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Bierman Funeral Home and Crematory. biermanfuneralhome.com.

She was a wonderful person and I was lucky enough to have her be a part of my life growing up in Dennison.
