Loren “Jake” Aldean Jacobson Loren “Jake” Jacobson, age 85, of Dundas, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital/Methodist Campus after a six-month battle with lymphoma.

Loren was born on the family farm in Ostrander, Minnesota to Alvin and Rhoda Jacobson. He was the oldest of four children. He lived on the family farm with his siblings, Roger, Sharlene and Larry. He farmed with his dad following his graduation from LeRoy High School. On January 4, 1953, he was united in marriage to Byrene Lowman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They had two daughters, Lorene and Kathy while farming in Ostrander. With Byrene’s encouragement, Loren pursued his dream of becoming an airline pilot. The family moved to Miami, Florida in 1958 for Loren to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. After receiving his pilot’s license, he went onto work for Buckeye Pipeline, Sears, Eastern, Braniff International and Sun Country Airlines. Through these years, the family lived in New York, Pennsylvania (where Sharla was born), Chicago, Texas and then finally settling in Rosemount, MN. Jake took great pride in being one of the founders of Sun Country Airlines. He received much joy in the early start-up years – overseeing the maintenance of the aircraft, picking up aircraft in England, and flying overseas for Desert Storm troops. Jake continued to fly for Sun Country until his retirement.

Loren was also married to two other amazing women. Jake and Judy Peterson worked together at Braniff and Sun Country Airlines and spent seven years together. Loren and Mavis were united in marriage in Hawaii on February 21, 1996. Together, they built a new home on his farm in rural Dundas, MN. Loren and Mavis were active members at St Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. They could be found doing projects on the church grounds, inside the kitchen either serving or cleaning, serving meals with the church youth at the homeless shelters in Minneapolis, and putting up the fences for the beer garden at Jesse James Days each fall. They enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Branson, Arizona and Florida. Loren and Mavis also enjoyed traveling to polka festivals in the Midwest. They were each other’s favorite dance partners until her death in February 2017. Following Mavis’ death, Loren traveled to visit his daughters, Lorene and Kathy and their families in North Carolina and Ohio. His last trip was to Florida to stay with Kathy at her winter home. In between his extended trips, he spent quality time with his daughter, Sharla and her family, Mavis’ children, Becky and Brent and his family as well as other family in Minnesota.

Loren was a devoted father and grandfather. He instilled a desire for learning and expected all three of his girls to obtain a college education. He was very proud of his grandchildren and their many accomplishments, whether it be a college education, military service or doctorate/masters degrees. Loren had high expectations for his kids but under all that gruffness, was a man who loved deeply. His warm hugs and “I love you’s will be sorely missed.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Mavis, his parents, brothers, Roger and Larry, great-grandson, Caelen and many other relatives. Loren is survived by his three daughters, Lorene (Wayne) of Charlotte, NC, Katherine (Dan) of Wadsworth, OH and Sharla (Mark) of Prior Lake, MN, his sister, Sharlene (Doug) Beisell of Wabasha, MN, two stepchildren Becky and Brent (Tami), both of Eagan and 7 grandchildren, Andrew, Derek, Danielle, Jacob, Scott, Amy and Kate, 2 step-grandchildren, Morgan and Brandon and 2 great-grandchildren, Jackson and Cooper.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, beginning at 11 am at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield with the Reverend David Weeks officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, October 5, 2018, from 4 PM to 7 PM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be held at a later date at Rosemount Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to: Mayo Clinic Hospice 200 First St. SW Rochester, MN 55905. My thoughts and prayers to Loren’s family. Loren and Mavis were our wonderful, wonderful friends and attended many dances and were together quite a bit and after Vernon my husband passed away in June, 2016 they came so many many times to visit with me. My heart is broken again but we must know that God has his plan for all of us and surely we know that loren and Mavis are together again. The last time i talked to him, he said he was pretty good. Again my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to all of you and to Mavis children and grand children. I will never forget you and love you dearly. Olive Hupf
