Luverne Edstrom, age 83 of Northfield, passed away Saturday morning, March 7, 2020, at Three Links Care Center. Luverne Dale Edstrom was born March 10, 1936, in Red Wing, Minnesota, to Kenneth and Dorothy (Westerson) Edstrom. Luverne Edstrom, age 83 of Northfield, passed away Saturday morning, March 7, 2020, at Three Links Care Center.

Luverne Dale Edstrom was born March 10, 1936, in Red Wing, Minnesota, to Kenneth and Dorothy (Westerson) Edstrom. He was raised on the family farm at Lake Byllesby and graduated from Randolph High School in 1955. Following his education he worked on the family farm and served in the US Army Reserve.

On February 28, 1959, Luverne married Lavonne Kaarevik at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Northfield. After marriage they farmed in the Randolph area until moving to a farm at Kenyon. They farmed until 1980, when Luverne went to work in liquid fertilizer sales and they moved to Wautoma, Wisconsin. In 1981, they moved to Northfield and Luverne worked at various jobs including several years as an over-the-road trucker. He spent his last working years as a custodian supervisor at the Dundas Rest Area.

Luverne was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was active as a 4-H leader when the kids were young. He enjoyed camping, gardening, yard work, going to the lake, golfing and wood working. He very much looked forward to spending winters with family and friends at their home in AZ. His was a “people person” who loved to visit and loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lavonne; his children, Kevin of Deerwood, Keith (Sue) of Eagle Lake, Karla (Gary) Peterson of Wautoma, Wisconsin, Kreg (Jeanne Monse) of Aitkin, Kristin of Mesa, Arizona, Kyle of Northfield; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, John (Ruth) of Burke, Virginia, Merle (Ruth) of Dennison; his sister-in-law, Cheryl Edstrom of Luverne; his brother-in-law, Richard Getting of Apple Valley, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gene, his sister Ann Marie Getting, mother-in-law Annette Kaarevik Chester and step-father-in-law Robert Chester, his brother-in-law Robert Kaarevik, his son-in-law Don Fritz, his nephew Ryan Edstrom and his step-niece Becky Crane.

Services will be 2:00PM, Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Bierman Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM and a reception will follow.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

    Our condolences to the Edstrom family. Although my memories of Luverne are from years ago when I was a child (Michelle-Christopher’s sister) , I remember being at the farm and Luverne being fun, laughing a lot and a jokester! The Edstrom men were a good looking bunch! May he finally be at peace. Jim & Michelle Mertz
