Obituary for Marilan Hanson Jacobson

Marilan was born on April 12, 1933, to Emil and Minnie (nee Ziemke) Wendland. After four sons; Orville, Robert, Darwin, and Marvin. They lived on a farm near Balaton, Minnesota. Emil passed away in 1934. Minnie remarried to Emil’s brother, Paul. These three sons joined the family; Harlan, Wesley, and Dennis Wendland. Marilan graduated from Balaton High School in 1951. Marilan was born on April 12, 1933, to Emil and Minnie (nee Ziemke) Wendland. After four sons; Orville, Robert, Darwin, and Marvin. They lived on a farm near Balaton, Minnesota. Emil passed away in 1934. Minnie remarried to Emil’s brother, Paul. These three sons joined the family; Harlan, Wesley, and Dennis Wendland.

Marilan graduated from Balaton High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Donald Hanson on May 11, 1952. This union was blessed with Kim Allen, Robin Don, and Renae Sharon. A premature son Terry William passed away October 15, 1952, after living a few short hours. Marilan was employed at the Nicollet County Bank in St. Peter while Donald attended Gustavus Adolphus College. He then taught at the high school level while Marilan enjoyed being a wife and mother. Later she worked part-time in nursing homes.

Donald was accidentally killed on his tractor in 2001. In 2007, Marilan remarried Murray Jacobson, a retired Pastor. They lived in Wadena until 2012. They then moved to Northfield and enjoyed their apartment. Murray passed away in 2014. Murray had two daughters Diane (Joe) Hinkle and Janet Jacobson.

Marilan passed away at the age of 86, peacefully and with family at her side, Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Northfield Hospital-Long Term Care after battling cancer. She is survived by her children Kim (Kari) of Mankato; Robin (Jane) of Waterville; Renae (Ken) Brubaker of Mazeppa; ten grandchildren and step-grandchildren Kip and Kirsten; Kyle (Nikki); Bill (Kelly); Alex (???) Engel; Stacy (Matt); Emily (Todd); Cassandra Hanson; Aspen; Sierra and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers Wesley (Rose) Wendland of Lebanon, OH; and Dennis (Lois Jean) Wendland of Eagle Lake.

Funeral services will be at Cornerstone Community Church in Northfield on Saturday, May 25, 2019, beginning at 11:00 AM with Reverend Keith Beckwith officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 24, 2019, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Bierman Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be held at a later date in Balaton, Minnesota.
