Mark J. Evans, age 46 of Deephaven, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Mark James Evans was born September 24, 1971, in Portland, Oregon, to James M. and Shirley A. (Oelfke) Evans. In 1972, his family moved to Northfield. Mark graduated from Northfield High School in 1990 and received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from St. John’s University in 1994. Mark J. Evans, age 46 of Deephaven, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 16, 2018.

Mark James Evans was born September 24, 1971, in Portland, Oregon, to James M. and Shirley A. (Oelfke) Evans. In 1972, his family moved to Northfield. Mark graduated from Northfield High School in 1990 and received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from St. John’s University in 1994. Following graduation, he accepted a position as a CPA with Deloitte and Touche, working in Minneapolis and later Luxemburg. In 1996, Mark married Lisa Felland in Mora. They later divorced. Subsequently, Mark received his MBA from the Carlson School of Management and held the CFA designation. He lived in the western Metro area for many years. He was previously a partner with Slocum & Associates and later Chief Investment Officer with JNBA Financial Advocates.

Mark was kind, funny, caring, and generous. He cared deeply for those he loved and gave everyone clever nicknames. He enjoyed spending time at the lake, traveling, and especially loved being with his family; the pride of his life were his two daughters.

Survivors include his daughters, Tatum Elizabeth and Erin Adeline; his parents, Jim & Shirley of Northfield; his brother, Paul of Minneapolis; his significant other, Andrea O’Halloran for the last several years and her daughter Lucy of Deephaven; and aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, August 24, 2018, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield, with Father Dennis Dempsey presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service and a reception will follow. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Northfield.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials are preferred to The Humane Society, HealthFinders, or the charity of your choosing.

    Cathy Murphy Schaper called last week and told me about Mark. My sincere and deep sympathy to you and your family. The loss of any loved one is at best difficult, the death of a child wrenching.

    Mark was an accomplished young man despite his age. I am sure you treasure his daughters, as did he. Hold them close to you. Hold each other close as well along with God. Prayers Prayers are with you.
