Mary Zoe Scott, 96, of Northfield, died Sunday, February 4, 2018, at the Northfield Retirement Community.

Mary Zoe (Fox) Scott was born in Northfield on March 6, 1921 to Chester and Marjorie (Barclay) Fox. She graduated from Northfield High School and bought her first home at the age of 18 while working at the Northfield Iron Company. Mary Zoe met her husband Ted in third grade and married him in 1952. They raised three daughters in Northfield. Mary Zoe was known for her love of music and was deeply involved in her daughters’ musical activities. The family enjoyed many summers camping different places around the United States in their camper, including the backyard on most summer nights. She was a nurturing, loving mother and truly adored to hear her children practice. As a family, they enjoyed countless conversations over breakfast and dinner together.

Mary Zoe and Ted took a 25th Anniversary cruise in the Mediterranean, visiting Turkey where his brother and sister-in-law lived, one of her favorite memories before his unexpected death in 1981. She still stayed heavily involved in her community and the United Methodist Church, where she had been directing and singing in choirs for 75 years. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Ruth Circle, Northfield Historical Society, Minneapolis Civic Orchestra, and Cannon Valley Regional Orchestra. It is well known that Mary Zoe not only took part in communities, but in many ways, built communities.

Mary Zoe was known for her love of her family and friends, warm and welcoming personality and of course, a strong passion for music. She has instilled many values in those she left and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Mary Zoe is survived by her daughters Nanette (Bill) Goldman of St. Louis Park, Heather Scott (Joel Lasater) of Northfield, Dawn Grench of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren Ellen Abrams, Geri (Stacy) Goldman, Holly Grench, Eva Grench, Lincoln Grench, Giselle Grench; great granddaughter Leora Goldman; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years Edward “Ted”; and son-in-law Bruce Grench.

A memorial service will be held at the Northfield United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Maple St., on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11 AM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mary Zoe Scott: One very special lady. A person who always had a kind word for everyone … and a person of scruples who knew how to bring out the best in other people. An unforgettable personality who we’ll remember with great fondness always. Blessings to the family.
