Norman Boyum, age 88 of Northfield, passed away with his wife and family by his side on Thursday evening, September 21, 2017, at the care center of the Northfield Retirement Community. Norman Leslie Boyum was born August 3, 1929, in Northfield, Minnesota, to Oscar and Winifred (Thielbar) Boyum. He was raised in Dundas and graduated from Northfield High School in 1947. Norman Boyum, age 88 of Northfield, passed away with his wife and family by his side on Thursday evening, September 21, 2017, at the care center of the Northfield Retirement Community.

Norman Leslie Boyum was born August 3, 1929, in Northfield, Minnesota, to Oscar and Winifred (Thielbar) Boyum. He was raised in Dundas and graduated from Northfield High School in 1947. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army – the beginning of his military career. On October 15, 1949, Norman married his high school sweetheart Joyce Peterson. After marriage they lived in Washington, DC, and later Manhattan, NY. Norm worked for 21 years for the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon (including one year served in Korea) and 18 years for the New York Urban Development Corp. Following retirement, they returned to Minnesota and built a home on Hartley Lake in Northern Minnesota to be near family. In 2009, they returned to Northfield.

He enjoyed time at the lake, boating, golfing, and singing in the church choir. Norman also helped design and build Lawron Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of almost 68 years, Joyce; his daughters Brenda (Jack) Sielaff of Northfield, Sandy (Dennis) McClintock of Northfield; 3 grandchildren Miranda Sielaff (Jacob Sacks), Melissa McClintock (Robb Myrtle), Sonia Sielaff; 2 great-grandchildren Nicholas and Connor Myrtle; a sister Arlene Williams of Dundas; a brother Neil Boyum in Florida; two sisters-in-law Arliss Boyum of Northfield, Marlys Boyum of Elysian, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Stanley and Roger.

Services will be 11:00AM, Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the Chapel of the Northfield Retirement Community. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service; a reception will follow. Interment with Military Honors will be in Groveland Cemetery, Dundas.
