Susan (Lippert) Lamson-Bundy passed away at the age of 75 on January 8, 2019, in Henderson, Nevada, at the home of her younger brother Jim Lippert and his wife Dory LeClair Lippert.

Susan was born in Washington, D.C. on November 12, 1943, to Gordon and Jean Lippert. Due to her father’s work in the Army and later the National Weather Service, Susan moved frequently as a child, including spending almost a year at Wake Island Air Force Base during the Korean War. The family was living in Wayne, MI when Susan graduated as valedictorian from high school in 1961. She then attended and graduated from Michigan State University, later pursuing a Ph.D. in Child Psychology at the University of Chicago. She met her future husband, George Lamson, in Chicago and was married in 1967. Susan and George moved to Northfield, MN in 1969 where George starting teaching at Carleton College. Susan then became an early pioneer in building up the Special Education program at Northfield Public Schools. She taught primarily in the elementary and middle school programs, focusing on helping children with learning disabilities to tackle reading and basic math. She retired from Northfield Public Schools in 2003, after George’s untimely death on October 15, 2002. She later was remarried to former Northfield Public Schools English teacher, Russell Bundy Jr., in 2003. They spent a happy retirement in their home in Dundas, MN until Russell passed away on January 26, 2014. Susan then moved to her brother’s home in Henderson, Nevada where she fought a long struggle with dementia.

Susan was a devoted teacher who was determined to give her students the chance to make progress and excel despite their difficult circumstances. Every student was a puzzle that could only be solved with individual attention, where she sought to find a learning style that fit their needs. Outside of school, she was also a devoted mother and teacher of life to her two children, Scott and Brandon. Susan was greatly interested in arts and music, and became quite an accomplished knitter, embroiderer, and gardener. She discovered in her studies of special education that she was a “tactile-kinesthetic learner,” which meant she best absorbed information if she kept her hands busy. This provided the perfect justification for knitting and embroidering at any place or time, and did not mean she was ignoring the world or other people! She was also a voracious reader, especially of mystery novels. Finally, Susan was always open to new experiences, people, and places, frequently traveling and living abroad, including three summers in Cambridge, England, and a summer in Beijing, China.

Susan is survived by her son, Scott Lamson of Philadephia, PA and his wife Merlin Wahyudi Lamson and daughter Brianna Wahyudi Lamson; son, Brandon Lamson of Washington, DC and his wife Ning Leng; brother James Lippert of Henderson, NV and his wife Dory LeClair Lippert.

Visitation will be at Bierman Funeral Home Saturday, August 3, 2019, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a remembrance service beginning at 3:30 PM. She will then be laid to rest with her former husbands at Oaklawn Cemetery. Arrangements by Bierman Funeral Home and Crematory. biermanfuneralhome.com.
