Hazel Lilly (Welch) Kolb, age 96 of Dundas, MN passed away peacefully on November 5 2015 at the Three Links Care Center. Hazel was born on March 4th, 1919 in Albert Lea, MN, daughter of Carl and Olive (Sharp) Welch. When she was a child her family moved to Dundas where she met and married Frank Kolb in 1935. Frank preceded her in death in 1991. Hazel remained on the family farm until two years ago when her health started to decline.

Hazel worked for many years at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault before she and Frank retired in 1981. They spent many winters in their motor home in Arizona. She continued to winter there until she was in her 80’s. She was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Dundas for many years where she and Frank were married. Hazel worked hard on the family farm making her own butter, ice cream, and highly coveted applesauce. Hazel was fond of a clean house, a swept sidewalk and an empty garbage can and often told her grandchildren if they were hungry she would be happy to get them “a tooth pick and a glass of water”.

Hazel is survived by her children Beverly Smith (special friend Jerry Athorp) of Northfield, Gerald Kolb of Dundas, Donna (Paul) Albers of Faribault and Donald (Mary Lee) Kolb of Northfield. Hazel is also survived by very special friend and long time companion Mel Vargo. She has 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 plus one on the way great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, her husband Frank and daughter Bonnie (Kolb) Kopischkie. The family wishes to express sincere thanks for the special care Hazel received at Pathways of the Three Links Care Center.

Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 11th at the Bierman Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service with Father Henry Doyle presiding. Burial will be at Groveland Cemetery in Dundas.
