Dwain Otte, age 88, of Northfield, formerly of Randolph, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Reflections of Three Links Care Center Campus surrounded by the love of his family.
Dwain was born March 25, 1929, on the family farm in Sciota Township, Minnesota, to William and Anna (Wille) Otte. He attended District 195 and helped his dad on the farm after 8th grade; he later earned his GED at the age of 47. Dwain married the love of his life Lorraine May on September 20, 1949. The couple farmed the home place and other properties for 44 years; they sold the farm in 1994 and moved to Northfield. Dwain continued to help in the fields until the spring of 2016. He loved to make the rounds to visit and check the crops.

Everyone who knew him saw that Dwain was a caretaker all his life. He took care of family members from grandparents to great grandchildren and was a father figure for many nieces and nephews. Many nonfamily members knew him as Grandpa Otte. Dwain cared about the community too as a member of the Lions Club in Randolph and Northfield, a member of the Randolph Fire Department, and the Knights of Columbus. In addition, Dwain cared about the land. He was active in many capacities in the National Farmers Organization, including state president. He served on Soil and Water Conservation District on the county, state, and national levels and was appointed by the governor to the BOWSER board.

Dwain is survived by his eight children: Laramie (Jay) Thompson of Jefferson City, MO, Glen (Laurie) of Randolph, Gary (Bonnie) of White Rock, Tom (Pat) of Randolph, Loralie (Kevin) Illa of Lakeville, Don (Bev) of Randolph, Andy (Cris) of Randolph, Dan (Cheryl) of Northfield, 28 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, and two sisters: Florence Millard of Spooner, WI, and Odell Peterson of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, three brothers Earl, Mike and Milton and six sisters Lavina, Caroline, Lillian, Marion, Julia and Dorothy Mae.

Funeral services will be at the Church of St. Dominic on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, beginning at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be Monday, May 29, 2017, from 2 PM to 6 PM at Bierman Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in rural Hampton.
