Floyd Jones, age 92, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at his home in Parkview West of the Northfield Retirement Community. Floyd James Jones was born March 22, 1926, in Bridgewater Township, Rice County, Minnesota, to Loren and Edna (Bateman) Jones. Floyd Jones, age 92, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at his home in Parkview West of the Northfield Retirement Community.

Floyd James Jones was born March 22, 1926, in Bridgewater Township, Rice County, Minnesota, to Loren and Edna (Bateman) Jones. He was raised in the Dundas area, attended Dundas School and graduated from Northfield High School in 1944. On June 27, 1946, Floyd married Lois Elaine Nielsen. After marriage they made their home in Northfield. Floyd was a “driver” most of his life. As a young man he drove taxi and owned a taxi company. He drove several different kinds of trucks and spent the majority of his career driving truck to and from Chicago for Mid-American Dairyman. Floyd also spent many years as a bus driver for Northfield Bus Company. He greatly enjoyed bus driving and enjoyed the time spent with passengers. One of his career highlights was driving the US National Hockey Team (Olympic Champions) on their hockey tour. In retirement he continued driving, this time as a car driver for Dokmo. Floyd also spent many years working as a carpenter and handyman.

Floyd was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He was a longtime Boy Scout leader, enjoyed pheasant hunting, and was a talented woodworker – making beautiful items for all of his family and others. He was proud to have been featured in a book showing many of his hand built items. Floyd loved to tease, had a big heart, and was a man of great integrity. He will be missed.

Survivors include his children, Michael (Bea) of White Bear Lake, Shelley Silkey of Northfield, Steven (Nancy) of Austin, Texas, John of Seattle; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Lanciloti (Randy Berg), Brian Jones, Keanan (Molly) Silkey, Sarah Silkey (Jesse Greenawalt), Kimberly (Joe) Kendall, Gregory (Joann) Jones, Colton Jones, Zack Jones; 7 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Evelyn Jones of Dundas; his brother-in-law, Larry (Joyce) Nielsen of Denver; many loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, his son-in-law David Silkey, his brother Leonard, and his sisters Dorothy Swanson and Marjorie Bledsoe.

Services will be 11:00AM, Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Bierman Funeral Home. A reception will follow. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Meadow Ridge Cemetery, Faribault.
