Joe Lewandowski, age 74 of Northfield, passed away Saturday morning, November 24, 2018, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Lawrence Joseph “Joe” Lewandowski was born September 19, 1944, in Northfield, Minnesota, to Alphonse and Jeanette (Rasmussen) Lewandowski. He will be best remembered for his generosity to others. Joe Lewandowski, age 74 of Northfield, passed away Saturday morning, November 24, 2018, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Lawrence Joseph “Joe” Lewandowski was born September 19, 1944, in Northfield, Minnesota, to Alphonse and Jeanette (Rasmussen) Lewandowski. He will be best remembered for his generosity to others. He led a simple, uncomplicated life and enjoyed visiting with family and friends in his “little house” that he built on a farm in rural Northfield.
Joe served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany for two years. He was very skilled in operating heavy machinery. He spent a number of years in California where he worked as a machinist prior to returning to the Northfield area in the 1980’s. He worked for a local farmer for several years, and upon retiring went into the scrap metal business.
Survivors include his siblings, John Lewandowski of Washington, Indiana, Mary (Mick) Lindberg of Rochester, Kenneth (Sharon) Lewandowski of Lakeville, Kathleen (Larry) DeMars of Maple Lake; his step-siblings, Pat (Shirley) Naughton, James (Sandra) Naughton, Margaret Valentyn and Barbara (Eldon) Turek; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his nephews Mark Lewandowski and Michael DeMars, and his sister-in-law Shirley Lewandowski.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00AM, Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Hazelwood. Interment with Military Honors will be in Annunciation Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bolton family and the Adam Royle family. Visitation will be 4-7PM, Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Bierman Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
