Philip David Anderson was born on January 31, 1981, in Oak Harbor, WA, to Tom and Lisa (Johnson) Anderson. The family moved to Minnesota when Phil was 4 1/2 years old, and they found a home in Northfield just in time for Phil to start school. Phil was an avid member of the FFA, loved automotive work, and was a woodworking artist. He graduated from Northfield High School in 1999 and studied construction at South Central College before going to work for Johnson-Reiland Builders and Remodelers. He also worked as a bartender at the Northfield Golf Club. In 2004, Phil moved to Los Angeles, where he owned and operated Xenophorm Design and Fabrication, a construction company specializing in movie and commercial sets. Phil returned to Northfield in 2017.

Phil was the life of the party and he had a boisterous charisma. With his towering stature, quick wit and booming laughter, people naturally gravitated toward him. He was a fierce and loyal friend to many, and would passionately defend those he knew and loved. He had a rugged exterior, but he could never hide his enormous, kind heart. He was deeply loved by all who knew him well, and will be dearly missed.

Philip and his family sought professional help to understand and control his depression and addictions, but on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at the age of 36, Phil ended his life after a long and painful battle.

Phil is survived by his parents, Tom and Lisa Anderson of Northfield; his siblings: Tom and Nicole of Holden, MA and their two children, Thomas IV and Emma Grace, Andrew and Jacob of Albert Lea, and Kjirsten and Chris Yauch of Columbia Heights; his maternal grandmother Romona Johnson of Burnsville; his paternal grandmother Miriam Anderson of Rochester; other family members; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Thomas Anderson and Robert Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Northfield, with lunch to follow. Visitation will take place one hour before the service at the church. Arrangements by Bierman Funeral Home. biermanfuneralhome.com
