Robert L. Groth, age 72, of Northfield, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 22, 2018, at his home.

Robert was born May 16, 1945, the son of Leonard and Goldie (Jacobs) Groth in Northfield. He attended Northfield High School. Bob’s father passed away when he was young and Bob helped on the family farm. Besides working on the farm when he was young, Bob worked at the Mobile Station in Northfield and later for Heyerholm Motors and Miller Implement where he worked as a mechanic and did auto body repair. He was united in marriage to Barbara Smith on May 21, 1966, at the Church of St. Dominic. He also served in the Army Reserves leaving for Fort Leonard Missouri right after getting married. The couple made their home in Northfield Township where they farmed together for fifty-one years. Many of those years were spent running a dairy farm together with their five children. He was still farming to this day.

Everyone who knew Bob, knew him to be a strong, funny, generous, loving and patient man. He lived life to the very fullest. He was a hard worker and could fix anything. He was very personable and enjoyed visiting, teasing or joking with friends and family. Bob enjoyed spending time with all the animals on the farm, but especially with his best bud, Maggie Moo, his two-year-old German Shepherd mix. Maggie followed him all over the farm. He also enjoyed fishing when he got the chance, especially with family. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barb; four daughters, Debra (Douglas) Gerlach of Nerstrand, Deanna Groth (Dennis Lemke) of Faribault, Brenda (Kevin) Kenow of Faribault, Shawn (Jason) Schmidt of Faribault; his mother, Goldie Halverson of Northfield; five grandchildren, Nathan Gerlach (Brittney Peters), Adam (Justine) Gerlach, Kayla and Chelsea Kenow, Eli Schmidt; great granddaughter Claire Gerlach; a sister, Susie (Gary) Schuetzle of Northfield, and three brothers, Chuck (Betty) of Northfield, Mike (Robbie) of Northfield and Ken of Isle. He was preceded in death by his father Leonard, his stepfather Orlien, son David (1991), and special friend Bob Bickel.
